DESCRIPTION:You have been hearing about the "destination" all-access playground coming to Lake Sammamish State Park for more than a year. \n\n\n\nFirst it was fund raising\, then a volunteer Community Build. Now the dream has come true!\n\n\n\nMark your calendar for the grand opening of the long-awaited playground at 11 a.m. Oct. 15. \n\nDonors of the $1.1 million playground will be recognized as the donation boulder is unveiled. \n\nMany children have been invited to cut the ribbon and then it's play time!\n\n\n\nThe 8-foot-tall blue heron will greet visitors to the playground. Park benches and a sidewalk surround the site. Rubber surfacing ensures accessibility for all\, from strollers to wheelchairs.\n\n\n\nThe playground is designed for ages 2-12. The youngest ones will enjoy climbing up the toadstools into the mushroom house before they slide out the other side. Nearby is a mountain to climb\, or explore inside the Issaquah Mining Co. coal mine to discover nuggets. \n\n\n\nReady to be challenged? Climb to the top of the 17-foot geodesic dome climbing net\, or take a twirl on the rotating net. Next up   the zip line! \n\n\n\nOf course\, there are swings for all ages and twin towers with more slides. Talk to a friend through the talking tubes\, or make music on the giant chimes. Take time to learn all about mushrooms and look for hidden animals among the play structures.\n\n\n\nThe playground came to life through the work of the non-profit Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park\, many local donors and volunteers and Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.\n\n\n\nLearn more at LakeSammamishFriends.org.
