Youth Services Coordinator

  1. The title for this contract position is Youth Services Coordinator for Influence the Choice (ITC). Influence the Choice is a youth drug prevention and mental health awareness coalition located in the Issaquah School District boundaries and serving the Issaquah district and adjacent communities. Since 2013, ITC has been primarily funded by a ten-year federal Drug Free Community grant but, in 2023, will continue as a fully independent 501c3 non-profit organization. Influence the Choice staff members work remotely and/or within the community; however, staff members may be provided with a laptop and will be reimbursed for approved office, printing and work expenses.
  1. The Youth Services Coordinator shall have the following duties:
  • Work with the ITC Executive Director, other staff members, the Board of Directors, students and community volunteers to achieve ITC’s mission of preventing and reducing youth substance abuse and promoting awareness of youth resilience and mental health;
  • Develop, plan, implement and evaluate established youth leadership activities and programs, including an annual student video contest, the Power of Me Power of We middle school leadership conference, and social/emotional classroom learning lessons for elementary, middle and high school presentations;
  • Develop, plan, implement and evaluate youth leadership and advocacy development activities, including an annual Youth Prevention Day in Olympia and other opportunities for youth advocacy with elected officials and community leaders;
  • Develop, plan, implement and evaluate parent education opportunities such as Hidden In Plain Sight, and interactive walk through a teen’s bedroom, and Positive Community Norms messaging;
  • Recruit, manage and honor youth volunteers from across the service area, and from diverse community groups;
  • When appropriate, work with the Development Manager to assist with fundraising activities and programs, and to promote the value of youth drug abuse prevention and youth resiliency and student mental health supports;
  • Foster and build positive and healthy relationships with youths; foster consistent, open, and direct communications with youths and adults, community organizations and individuals; and foster a sense of belonging, caring and kindness among youth volunteers involved with Influence the Choice;
  • Participate in helping the Executive Director, Development Manager or Administrative Accountant prepare reports required by various granting agencies;
  • Participate in the implementation of rigorous assessment measures for youth programs.
  1. The qualifications, skills and knowledge for this position include:
  • A degree, related experience or coursework in education, recreation, or youth development is required;
  • A degree or related experience in chemical dependency prevention or behavioral health is desirable but not required;
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people to achieve goals and desired outcomes;
  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting, managing and honoring volunteers;
  • Demonstrated speaking and presentation skills;
  • Experience with layout, graphic arts, social media, websites and other communications skills are a plus.
  • Experience working within or adjacent to the service area, and knowledge of the many communities, neighborhoods and social groups within the service area is desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of Positive Community Norms through The Montana Institute is desirable but not required;
  • Fluency in a second language, such as Spanish or Mandarin Chinese, is desirable but not required.

  1. The compensation range for this position is up to $30 per hour, up to $56,640 per year, depending upon experience, qualifications and hours worked. This position is considered full-time, but weekly hours will vary. The contract will cover 48 weeks, with little or no work required in July due to ITC’s close collaboration with the annual school calendar. This is a contracted position.  No benefits or office space will be provided. However, ITC will provide the successful contractor with a laptop computer and will reimburse for approved printing, supplies and other expenses related to the position.
