Although the cloud is a more secure, convenient way to store your important files, that doesn't make it infallible. Data stored in the cloud can be susceptible to accidental deletion, loss or corruption. Negative incidents in the cloud might come from human error, system failures, synchronization issues, or issues with backup and recovery processes.   

It’s important to remember that while cloud providers ensure uptime and availability, they often do not include a data protection agreement in their services, leaving the responsibility for data safety largely in your hands. Without proper data backup and redundancy measures, data loss incidents can have serious consequences—this is why it's best to back up your backups to a second, encrypted cloud server. 

How can you - and the rest of your organization - keep safe from threats to your cloud security?   

• Heed your Security Awareness Training to better recognize and report suspicious activity.   

• Regularly update your software, use strong passwords and generally practice good cyber hygiene.   

• Beware the rising threat of supply chain attacks by establishing strict guidelines for preventing third party compromise from affecting your data.   

• Watch out for insider threats, both accidental and purposeful, and mind your clearance levels so you don't become an insider threat yourself. Data security is a team effort! Do your part to protect your cloud security too.
